Generally in Gold or Platinum, either plain or set with a gemstone such as Bloodstone, Black Onyx or Lapis Lazuli. Signet rings can either be plain, or hand engraved with initials or a crest – originally used with sealing wax to leave in impression of the wearer’s identity when sealing a letter.
